My youngest is almost 13 years old (How did that happen?!?), so I thought it was time to update his room and make it a little more “grown up” looking. He loves baseball, so that was the “before” theme of his room.
The plaid bedding and the baseball pillows were cute, they just looked too young for him now. I wanted to keep the baseball theme, just with an “older kid edge,” so when I came across these prints on Etsy of baseball patents, I thought they were perfect!
These prints were the perfect inspiration to update his room! I got the 11×17 barnwood frames at Hobby Lobby, giving them a rustic look. The black print contrasts well against the gray walls, and also fits with the more mature look I was going for. These prints also come in other colors though.
The main wall of his room was a cluttered mess. Originally it was just the canvases and basket of hats above the tv, then things just kept getting added to his wall over the years until it was full. This was the perfect place to hang the new prints.
We kept his award displays and the first deer he ever killed, and took down everything else, leaving plenty of room for the new prints. Even though this wall is still pretty full, it looks much less cluttered and haphazard.
I had found a brown leather lumbar pillow at Home Goods a while back for super cheap, and knew it would be perfect for Cash’s room, even though at that time I had no idea what I was going to do with it. I decided to just go with neutral bedding, and bring in pattern with a new rug.
The gray sheets actually came from Walmart, so they were super cheap, but so soft since they are the t-shirt sheets. The khaki comforter set came from Amazon, so also inexpensive. The khaki color is a little lighter than it looked online, but the material is so soft. The abstract rug also came from Amazon, and ties all the grays, blacks and tans together. (Please ignore all the clutter on his desk – we hadn’t gotten around to cleaning that part of his room out yet!)
The brown leather pillow works perfectly with the neutral bedding, so I’m so glad I snagged it at Home Goods since it was the only one they had!

Last, I changed his navy blue curtains to gray…
…and replaced the large baseball canvas with a fishing rod holder so now his fishing poles are out of the way. The solid comforter instead of the plaid one, as well as de-cluttering the walls a little bit, make his room look bigger and definitely more grown up.
So even if I’m not quite ready for him to be a teenager, his room is ready for it!
Thanks y’all!
